What’s in Our Living Soil Blends - and Why Each Input Matters

A list of all our soil inputs and what each one functionally does in this mix. Our goal is to make sure you not only know what we use in our soil but WHY we use it.

ALL INPUTS ARE APPROVED FOR ORGANIC USE

Base Soil Mix:

Professional Grade Sphagnum Peat Moss

  • Provides excellent water holding capacity while maintaining aeration
  • Helps achieve an ideal water-to-air ratio
  • Naturally high cation exchange capacity (CEC), improving nutrient retention

Biochar, Pumice, Vermiculite & Pine Fines

  • Improve aeration, drainage, and resistance to compaction
  • Enhance moisture retention without sacrificing oxygen availability
  • Increase overall CEC and support long term soil structure
  • Promote microbial habitat and biological activity

High Quality Worm Castings & Plant Based Compost

  • Introduce a diverse and resilient microbial ecosystem
  • Supply slow release nutrients and stable organic matter
  • Improve aggregation, soil structure, and water holding capacity

Organic Fertilizer Inputs

Wollastonite

  • Provides plant available silica
  • Assists with soil pH management and structural plant strength

Gypsum

  • Excellent source of calcium and sulfur
  • Improves soil aggregation and nutrient availability without affecting pH

Calphos

  • Slow release phosphorus source
  • Also supplies slow release calcium for root development and structural integrity

Granular Mycelium Extract

  • Nitrogen rich with additional phosphorus, potassium, and chitin
  • Contains plant stimulating enzymes
  • Predictable nutrient release and strong biological stimulation

Bone Meal

  • More immediate phosphorus source with supplemental nitrogen
  • Contributes calcium for root and cell wall development

Alfalfa Meal

  • Slow release nitrogen source containing potassium and trace minerals
  • Naturally rich in triacontanol (a powerful growth stimulant)
  • Contains saponins that support biological balance and plant resilience

Perfect Blend

  • Balanced, moderate release, chelated nutrient source
  • pH stabilized and biologically active
  • Builds soil structure and supports microbial function

Insect Frass

  • Unique microbial profile distinct from compost and worm castings
  • High in chitin, stimulating plant immune responses
  • Balanced nutrient contribution and biological activation

Malted Barley

  • Enzyme rich biological stimulant
  • Feeds soil microbes and accelerates nutrient cycling

Soybean Meal

  • High quality, plant based nitrogen source
  • Moderate and predictable release rate

Potassium Sulfate

  • Clean, effective source of potassium
  • Supports flowering, fruiting, and stress tolerance

Fish Bone Meal

  • Phosphorus rich with nitrogen and trace minerals
  • Used sparingly to minimize sodium and chloride inputs

Crustacean Meal

  • Medium release nitrogen, phosphorus, calcium, and chitin
  • Chitin enhances plant immune responses and pest resistance
  • Applied conservatively to avoid excess Sodium and Chloride

Kelp Meal

  • Broad spectrum trace minerals and natural growth hormones
  • Supports stress tolerance and overall plant vigor
  • Used sparingly to limit sodium and chloride contribution

Magnesium Sulfate

  • Provides readily available magnesium and sulfur
  • Supports chlorophyll production and enzymatic function

Fish Hydrolysate

  • Rich in proteins, amino acids, oils, and enzymes
  • Stimulates microbial activity and root development

Trace Mineral Mix

  • Iron
  • Manganese
  • Copper
  • Zinc
  • Boron
  • Ensures complete micronutrient availability for different plant processes.

Riverview Root Fuel

  • Proprietary blend of quillaja powder, yucca powder, soapwort powder, licorice root powder, aloe vera powder, coconut powder, kelp powder, and fulvic acid
  • Rich in botanical biostimulants and natural saponins
  • Promotes aggressive root growth, improved nutrient uptake, and uniform moisture distribution throughout the soil profile
